Pfizer has announced that it has licensed the generic version of Valtrex to market in the United States, but has not yet received approval from the FDA for the generic version.
In a statement from the company, Pfizer said, “The launch of Valtrex (valacyclovir) in the United States marks a significant milestone in Pfizer’s efforts to develop a more affordable antiviral medication, valacyclovir, to treat various viral infections.”
The announcement follows another that has been made by the company to market a generic version of the drug.
Pfizer announced the availability of the generic version of the drug in the United States. It is expected that Valtrex will be available in the United States by the end of the year.

“Patients have long been interested in valacyclovir for its ability to help manage their viral infections, but valacyclovir has a limited proven track record in treating viral infections, so the FDA’s decision to approve Valtrex (valacyclovir) is a significant step in ensuring that this drug remains a safe and effective treatment option for patients who may not respond to other effective treatments.”
The drug’s label is not yet available in the United States, and it has not been approved by the FDA for use by women. The company said that the availability of the generic version of Valtrex will make it easier for patients to access treatment, and it is not expected that the generic will become available soon.
“Pfizer is excited about the availability of valacyclovir as it will provide additional affordable and effective antiviral medication for patients who may not have responded to other effective treatment options,” said Dr. Gough. “Our hope is that the availability of valacyclovir as a generic drug will encourage patients to seek treatment for their viral infections.”
Valtrex is a prodrug of acyclovir, an antibiotic. It works by preventing the production of bacteria and parasites in the body.
It is used to treat a variety of viral infections, including herpes simplex and the common cold. It is also used to reduce fever and alleviate symptoms associated with cold sores, such as itching and tingling.
Valtrex is available in the United States only once daily, and the availability of the generic version will make it easier for patients to access treatment.
